Are students required to have health insurance?
Only international students are required by law to provide proof of health insurance coverage. All students are encouraged to have some form of health insurance. Many students are eligible to continue health insurance coverage under their family plan while they are full-time students; to see if you are eligible, check your family policy. The University has made arrangements to offer group health insurance coverage, including major medical benefits, to enrolled single and married students, their spouses, and children. You will receive a mailing about the student health insurance plan prior to the start of classes. If you did not receive the health history form in your admission packet, you can download the Medical History Form at http://campushealth.unc.edu.
