Are students allowed to have cars on campus?

Yes. All students, including freshmen, are allowed to bring a car to campus. However, living in the residence halls, you do not need a car to get around campus. Residence halls are within walking distance to classes, the library, professors’ offices and all the other campus facilities. To avoid the hassles of traffic and parking many students choose to use the Red and Black Shuttle which makes stops around campus every evening, Monday through Friday. SDSU students who wish to park their car on campus are required to purchase an SDSU parking permit each semester. Residence hall students must purchase the student parking permit that includes overnight parking in order to park in student lots from 1 a.m.-6 a.m.

Freshmen and sophomores are not allowed to have cars on campus, given limited parking availability. It is very easy, however, to get around the city without a car by taking advantage of the PC Student Shuttle and the RIPTA Bus System. PC students are able to ride any RIPTA bus for free simply by showing their student I.D. card.
