Are stay-at-home dads at a job hunting disadvantage?
Although parenthood is the most important job that most people will ever have, the workplace doesn’t necessarily see the time spent with children as an asset. Traditionally, it’s been stay-at-home moms who had to deal with issues related to getting back into the workplace—but times they are a-changin’. In 2009, 7.5 percent of married fathers stayed at home with their munchkins as their wives acted as the bread winners of the household. And like stay-at-home mothers, fathers have a difficult time when they are ready to re-enter the workforce—along with the added stigma associated with reversing gender roles. This video profiles some stay-at-home dads that have dealt with the challenges of job hunting—and how some people view their time at home as a disadvantage.
