Are State Legislators Minding the Store?
State legislators have a major impact on the operating costs businesses in that state must face. Our 12th annual Legislative Quotient study examines how each state gets its revenue (what percentage comes from corporate and individual income taxes, sales taxes, excise taxes, inventory taxes, property taxes, etc.), how much of that revenue is spent on critical infrastructure (education, highways, etc.), whether or not they are mortgaging the future through burdensome debt and, finally, trends in those areas over the last five years.
