Are Sr-90 check sources radioactive?
Strontium-90 decays by emitting beta radiation. The quantity of radioactivity present in the check source has been limited but is sufficient to allow radiation contamination monitors to be tested for correct operation. The check source would be classed as “radioactive” under most legislation but in many countries, such sources are exempted from registration. The local instrument test position should be checked with the appropriate regulatory authorities.
