Are Sports Commentators Biased Against the Dodgers?
pitchers in the top 20 in baseball in ERA. Tops in the National League in team batting average. It wasn’t a forgone conclusion that the Dodgers would beat the Cardinals. But many “in the know” were talking about how many games it would take the Cardinals to beat the Dodgers. Not “if”. Now they have beaten the Cardinals. Nothing is ever a forgone conclusion with the Los Angeles Dodgers. If the same stats above were quoted, yet they belonged to the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals or Cubs, the pundits would have talked about what a battle the series would be. But not the Dodgers. Why the bias? The Dodgers are among the most successful teams in baseball history. Sure, they can’t compare in certain ways to the history of the Yankees, but who can? The Dodgers have won 22 pennants and 6 World Series. While they haven’t won the World Series since 1988, the Dodgers are a force to be reckoned with more times than not.
