Are sportfish and game in Maine safe to eat?
The Division of Environmental Health within the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is responsible for developing warnings on eating fish and game based on the presence of contaminants. Warnings on eating fish and game for Maine freshwater and marine fish have been issued by the Division. The consumption advisory for freshwater fish is also summarized in the annual Open Water Fishing Regulations booklet published by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
