Are “spider veins” a form of varicose veins?
Yes, these are a non-threatening form of disease of the smallest (up to 1mm diameter) veins located just under the skin. Although they are not dangerous, they can cause various problems and disfigure female legs (less frequently male legs). On the other hand, “spider veins” located on the ankles and feet almost always indicate advanced diseasing of the entire venous system and require immediate attention from a phlebologist.
