Are special policies and procedures required for using SMART911?
No. While SMART911 prefers that PSAPs have policies and procedures that strongly encourage call takers to use SMART911 information when available, there is no requirement to use SMART911 information. SMART911 realizes that in emergency situations triage is often necessary. SMART911 believes that most public safety personnel will quickly see the benefits of SMART911 information and use it to great advantage. SMART911’s service and information should only be used to enhance and speed public safety efforts. Use of SMART911 should not be a requirement that could potentially distract from higher priority response activities.
