Are Southern Baptists fundamentalists or just mainstream conservative Protestants?

0

I think that most Southern Baptists would consider themselves fundamentalists, in the sense that they consider the Bible to be the inerrant word of God. There are other varieties of Baptists (such as American Baptists) that wouldn’t be considered fundamentalist. I think the Southern Baptist Convention would consider itself to be in the mainstream among conservative Protestants. My own perspective is a bit unique — I was born into a United Methodist Church family, then spent several years as a Southern Baptist in my early teens, until I decided that I felt more at home as a Methodist.
