Are Song and Ted the future for the USAs major airlines?
United is in bankruptcy and Delta may not be far behind, but both airlines are increasingly touting the service of their wholly-owned low-fare spin-offs. United’s Ted celebrated its first anniversary in February, and the airline plans to grow its fleet by 20%, according to Newsday. Delta’s Song also is growing, especially at New York’s JFK Airport, where the Delta discount unit has launched a major campaign at JetBlue, the New York-based discounter that Song was largely created to fight. But in both cases, at least some of the new routes flown by both Ted and Song are simply routes that have been shifted from their parent airlines.
