Are solid ink and invisible paper the hottest Xerox products?
In printing, we have two major technologies. There is Xerographic printing, which is based on electrostatic imaging toners. These dry toners are a significant part of our products. Then you have solid ink by which we print vibrant images on plain paper. It is mostly used in the office right now. Xerox is the only company in the world that is commercialising solid ink products today. It is a unique proprietary technology. You buy a solid ink block and you can print and there is basically no waste. It is environment friendly and has low running costs. Then there is erasable paper. It is a research project, not commercial as yet. In this, you can re-use the same piece of paper many times. Our research showed that 40 per cent of what customers printed in a day is garbage at the end of the day. So we thought, why not invent a printing technology that actually lets you print, and later, it is gone. So, that’s how the idea of erasable paper came up.
