Are social graces really all that complicated for people?
I’m at the gym this week and have two extra kids with me because I’m keeping them for a friend. The girls are 12 and 14 and very well behaved. We walk into to Childcare area which is currently overrun with the under 2’s and louder than a Nascar Race and I ask the Childcare Attendant if the girls might be better off reading a book in the waiting area at the front of the gym. She says “Of course they would!” and sends me off to help them find a spot to sit for the hour that I’ll be working out. Off I go to get those endorphins pumping …….. and then, the gym manager approaches. ” Are you here with those girls?” “Yes.” “They can’t sit up there like that.” “Ok.” “It’s a liability and I’m not responsible nor is the gym if anything happens to them.” “Ok. The childcare attendant told me to have them sit up there – you may want to clarify with her what is allowed and not allowed.” ” I will. It is absolutely against our rules and when you bring them next time they can not sit there.” “There won’
