Ski jackets are OK. Some are quite expensive but you can get some good ones at discount places like TK MAX. If you are thinking of winter clothing for UK,you might like to consider layering. If you are in the south, winters are relatively mild. Rain is more of a problem. You need a waterproof outer jacket (Gortex, if you can afford it) and a warm fleece. If you suffer from the cold, a thermal vest (and long john’s if you really suffer!) are very useful. If you really want a warm jacket too and aren’t too worried about fashion, you can buy an excellent cheap parka from an army surplus supplier (shops or on-line). I bought a Swedish Army Parka and it’s very cosy!
