Are Shun Knives forged or stamped?
All steel is forged. Forging is the process of pounding the steel to align the molecular structure. This should not be confused with the traditional German drop forging method which is the process of forming the blade bolster and tang out of one piece of steel. This process is no longer used by the major German producers because it is inefficient. However it is the standard by which quality knives have been judged in our country for years. As far a stamping is concerned, all blades are stamped, including German blades. Stamping simply means to cut out the blade from the blank. Kershaw uses clad metal technology. This is what makes Kershaw knives different.
