Yes, shoulder boards are specific as to gender. Both hard and soft shoulder boards are made in male and female versions. Hard shoulder boards are more obvious as to the difference. The male boards have a tab and snap that threads under the shoulder loops on the shirt. The female boards have a slot for threading through the epaulet and attaching it to the shirt. For soft shoulder boards, the difference is the size of the PHS device on the shoulder boards.
