Are ship security alert systems covered by the Directive?
Ship security alert systems that are exclusively used for this purpose could be exempted from the Directive by Member States. There is however no obligation on Member States to do so. Ship security alert systems that use communications devices that are also used for types of communication, that fall outside the activities mentioned in article 1.5 cannot be exempted from the Directive.
