The team behind Robot Chicken is moving on up …to Fox. They sold an animated series to the network that is intended to appear on prime time. The formula of the new show will be familiar. It’s pretty much a family and school-based comedy like all the other Fox animated shows. It’s somewhat of a shame as Robot Chicken presented something fun and different while this could potentially be lost in a crowd that includes the entire Sunday night Fox line-up. Hopefully Green and company can add some sort of unique flavor to the show that will help it distinguish itself. Obviously, Seth Green is already involved with the Sunday night Fox animated shows, since he’s the voice of Chris Griffin on Family Guy. That show even throws in lines occasionally promoting a fictitious Family Guy/Robot Chicken feud. I wonder if this news will change the dynamic of that “feud” somewhat. Probably not, other than giving them something else to make in-jokes about.
It seems that Fox wants more animation to dominate the primetime spectrum. According to , Fox has ordered a presentation and a script from Robot Chicken creator Seth Green. Green will team up with his Robot Chicken team of Matt Senreich, co-creator and executive producer of the show, and Tom Root, a writer-producer on the Adult Swim series. The series is said to utilize family life and high school themes as backdrops for the show, and Green added the series, “will have an aesthetic familiar to viewers of Fox’s popular animated comedies.” It was said that the series will employ traditional animation, as opposed to Green’s Robot Chicken, which uses stop-motion animation.
Seth Green has a crafted a very successful career in animation – first as a voice actor (Family Guy) and then by producing his own series on Adult Swim, Robot Chicken and the just debuted Titan Maximum. Now Green and his producing partners, Matthew Senreich and Tom Root, are looking to come to primetime, with a new project being developed for FOX. Green tells the Hollywood Reporter the as yet-untitled project “will have an aesthetic familiar to viewers of Fox’s popular animated comedies,” and mark a departure from the stop-motion used on Robot Chicken and Titan Maximum. 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are being the project, which FOX has ordered a presentation and script for.
