In the majority of cases the author is convinced that perceiving semi-subliminal elements in ads relies upon perceiving cues that do exist in the real world. Ads with elements very close to the borderline of perceptual ability are likely to produce ambiguous and ambivalent judgements and imagination and expectations may play a larger role than normal and lead to initial conclusions that do not reflect what is ultimately consciously perceived.
