Are semi- automatic guns illegal?
It depends upon which state you live in, as well as exactly what type of gun it is. For example, to show how stupid such laws are in terms of uneven application, a Thompson semi-automatic rifle, designed like the old Tommy Guns, is illegal in California, but the Ruger Mini-14, a far more dangerous gun, IS legal in California. A Ruger is the kind of assault weapon you would use during an insurrection, or a shoot-out robbery like the one we had a few years ago in North Hollywood, and yet they’re legal. But a Thompson SEMI auto (NOT a full auto machine gun) is only really good for collectors and maybe for home protection, but they’re illegal in California. Go figure.
