Are searches required in order to fill all faculty positions?
Although the majority of faculty positions are filled through the search process, under special limited circumstances, a faculty position may be fulled through an exemption. In these instances, EOP will review the exemption request which indicates the reason and exemption from the search process is warranted. An exemption may be requested for the following reasons: 1) temporary nonrenewable appointment up to one year; 2) postdoctoral trainee appointment for not more than three years as research associates; 3) research faculty position in which the individual serves as principal or co-principal investigator of an approved research grant that specifically dsignates extramural salary support; 4) appointment to a faculty rank and title, without compensation or with nominal pay compared to the regular compensation of similar positions; 5) part-time appointment of up to 50%; 6) acting or interim appointment made in an exigency; 7) unique qualifications that make a search counterproductive; a
