Are seals a potential tool for monitoring change in marine systems?
M. Hindell, C. Bradshaw, R. Harcourt and C. Guinet Abstract Marine ecosystems are vast and complex biological networks, which are dynamic in structure at a range of spatial and temporal scales. The dynamic activity of these systems is driven ultimately by variation in climatic conditions which has important repercussions for the location and abundance of primary production (i.e. phytoplankton), which in turn contributes to the distribution and abundance of secondary producers (grazers) and ultimately, top predators.
