Are scottish people and irish people of the same ethinicity?
Hi Makingsnsucks in reality, there is no such thing as race. This is a concept created in the 19th century by Nationalist scholars to legitmise their philosophy. But really, there is no one way to define a race. Nations have been so swept with migrations and invasions for so long. Few Irish people could trace descent back to the first Gaels and few French the Franks. Most contemporary scholars will agree with this. It doesn’t exist. As for your questions, while it is true that the Irish and Scottish share a similar langauge, musical and cultural heritage, finding any form of defnitive blood linkage between them is near impossible. General similarties may exist, but Scots and Irish also share vague blood ties with Vikings, Basques, Welsh and English. Celticism on the other hand was not an ethnic trait in either country.
