Are SCOTT™ Flushable Wipes safe for sewer and septic?
Yes. The flushability of SCOTT™ Flushable Wipes is based on the size of product and the quantity used, and we have conducted testing to make sure the wipes move through plumbing systems. Results indicate that our products can be used in plumbing systems in good working order. For best flushability, we recommend one or two wipes per flush.
As an employee of a municipal wastewater treatment plant I can say with some authority that although the wipes may be "flushable" they are not biodegradable. Wipes are a constant source of clogging in the sewer lines and pump stations, as well as the pumps in the plant themselves. You are paying extra for the convenience of "flushable" wipes and you are paying again in the costs of manpower overtime, equipment failure and rate increases from your local sewer authority.
