Are school tests an efficient way of judging students intelligence/aptitude or just the ability to remember facts?
I don’t think they do either. That is, I’ve had a few types of test. Every day/weekly quizzes, chapter tests, pop quizzes, state testing, ACT (Explore + Plan), and the SAT’s. Now, each has a different part to this. I think every day / weekly quizzes are effective in judging how much of the information the teachers were relaying actually got placed in the students memories. Chapter tests are in the same league. Pop quizzes are essentially a sneakier more abrupt form, and I believe if a student is to do well on one of these, they’re most likely really good at retaining information. State testing I think is complete bullshit. I took my state tests high and I did amazingly awesome. There is no way in hell that that test, which I exceeded with flying colors, actually judged any of my intelligence / aptitude. Everyone around me did extremely well awesome. The ACT’s main purpose is to judge aptitude, and I think they do a horrible job at it. I failed completely in the math category one year d
