Are Saints good with children?
DEFINITELY! Saint Bernards are a gentle breed and most are are surprisingly careful around children. Known for their loyalty and dedication, they make great companions and family pets because they are extremely easy going, forgiving, and have loving personalities. A saint’s instinct is to become protective of his family. Please remember…Saints are gentle ‘giants’ but they must be well trained and socialized. Note: Care must be taken with very small children due to the tremendous size and weight difference. Also young children must be taught how to play with small puppies, even St. Bernard puppies. Parents should be constantly vigilant during the early stages of socialization. It is very important to teach children to respect animals and how to properly handle a puppy. Never allow your child to ‘ride’ a Saint, or be abusive to any animal. It goes without saying young children should NEVER be left unattended with any dog.
