An increasing number of homeowners are building safe rooms to protect their families from the high winds of hurricanes, or because they are unsure whether they will be able to safely evacuate in advance of a storm event. FEMA 320 offers prescriptive safe room design solutions that are appropriate for both tornado and hurricane hazards, and FEMA 361 offers design guidance for residential and community safe rooms for both hazards as well.
