Are ritual abuse and extreme abuse the same thing?
Although all ritual abuse falls under the extreme abuse category, not all extreme abuse is considered ritual abuse. For instance, victims of human trafficking or the sex slave trade fall under the category of extreme abuse, but not necessarily under the category of ritual abuse. In ritual abuse, there is always an element of systematic abuse performed in a ritual manner to reinforce perpetrator’s ideology. We want to emphasize however, that situations of human trafficking and the sex slave trade often involve ritual abuse and it has been said that RA is the number one reason for the sex slave trade.
