When governments discourage imports of used cars through tariffs and non-tariff barriers to protect domestic car manufacturing industry, the world loses an opportunity to extend the useful life of the relevant goods and forces unnecessary scrapping and replacement….ideally a car should last for ever with intelligent maintenance and upgrade retrofits even after traversing the food chain from developed to developing countries …. Is it time for the environmentalists to take up this challenge and educate governments that national sub system optimization is leading up to a global systemic waste….
