Are resource rooms another form of segregation?
There is a great danger in the creation of a resource room, or specialist facility, within a regular school. It encourages the idea that only specialists can teach disabled children. Teachers in the main school are likely to send children with behaviour and other problems to the resource room rather than attempting to solve the problem themselves. The children are likely to be socially, but not academically integrated. Resource rooms have been very successful for visually impaired children in urban areas, but it is an expensive option which is unlikely to work in rural areas. How can we empower children to be more involved in IE? Child-to-Child methodology is perhaps the most effective way of involving children in the process of implementing IE.
