During repository construction and operation, as part of the performance confirmation program, DOE is required by 10 CFR 63.132 to establish a continuous program of surveillances, measurements, testing, and geologic mapping to ensure that the natural and engineered design features of the repository are confirmed, and to alert the NRC of any design changes needed to accommodate actual conditions. Surveys of the underground facility, descriptions of the material encountered, geologic maps and geologic cross-sections, and documents on seepage and dewatering systems are required by 10 CFR 63.
