Are Refreshments Included?
One of the more luxurious aspects of train travel are features like cafe, dining and/or lounge cars. As a general rule, the farther a particular rail line goes, the more likely such features will be present, but this rule is hardly ironclad. An all-day or overnight train will have some arrangement for refreshments, but this might not be very expansive. The all-day Amtrak journey from New York to Montreal is serviced by a cafe car, as is Amtrak’s Acela service throughout the Northeast U.S. Longer journeys such as Amtrak’s Chicago to San Francisco California Zephyr have dining and lounge cars, while the Alaska Railway’s dining car serves its passengers fare like Bering Sea pollock stuffed with crab and prepared with pesto.
