Are Rat traps cruel and evil?
As far as methods of exterminating go, I hear the spring loaded old fashioned types of traps tend to be, actually, one of the better ways to go as they usually kill pretty instantly. Of course it doesn’t always work properly, but on a whole, that way is at least a swift death most of the time. I know all of us animal lovers hate to think of killing anything, but extermination is necessary sometimes. Rats can overpopulate pretty swiftly, and they really can carry bad diseses. So, I’d rather the death be swift, I suppose. If we just relocated all rats to some forest or something, they’d kill out local populations of squirrels and chipmunks and whatnot because rats will wipe the area clean of food sources.
I don’t know if the mouse/rat traps kill instantly or not. If I had rodents in my house, I would prefer to use those traps that the mouse runs into and the door slides shut and you go outside and release it. I think it’s meant for you to throw away and the mouse to suffocate but I would just release it. We try to just sweep them out with a broom. I am a big time animal lover, I would love to have domesticated mice or rats, but I would do what I had to to get them out of my house because they could carry disease.
