A. The R&A and USGA announced a Decision on the Rules of Golf regarding distance measuring devices. This decision allows committees in charge of competitions to implement a local rule which permits the use of distance measuring devices for their competition. Without that local rule being in effect, distance measuring devices are still contrary to the Rules – a breach of Rule 14-3 with a penalty of disqualification. Since the RCGA adheres to the Decisions that have been announced, committees in Canada will also be able to implement this local rule. So before you use a distance measuring device, check the local rules where you are playing.
