Are pyrotechnic signals dangerous?
Anything that burns has some degree of danger. Orion pyrotechnic signals however have very clear use instructions which should be read and understood before an emergency situation arises. The Orion Smoke Flares and Camp Fire Starters, for instance, should only be placed on an area cleared of combustible debris like grass, leaves, twigs, sticks, etc. Orion aerial flares should not be fired in high wind conditions and should only be launched straight up (making certain there are no overhead obstructions). While Orion’s aerial flares are designed to extinguish high in the air, the angle of fire or severe wind could cause the meteor to hit the ground burning. Due to the inherent nature of pyrotechnics, it is important that the user fully familiarize himself/herself with the signals before actual use.
