Are problems in today society caused mainly by lack of morals and responsibility?
There were formerly standards which were inculcated into people and applied generally throughout society. One thing which was important was telling the truth. It would have been a disgrace to be caught out on a lie. Nowadays people have no shame in telling blatant untruths in front of people who know full well that they are lying. People cheat in exams (earlier this week it was disclosed that half the Cambridge undergraduates who had filled in a survey admitted to plagiarism) and on their job applications. Sexual mores are at an unprecedented low and some of the programmes one sees on tv seem to regard adultery as amusing and promiscuity as the norm. There is no shame in single women producing babies or in destroying the life of unborn children. In a society which frowns upon punishing children and in which adults are not setting the example they should there seems little prospect of things improving.
