Are Postdoctoral Research Associates and Postdoctoral Research Fellows subject to the furlough?
Postdoctoral Research Associates are benefits eligible employees of the University who receive a salary and employee benefits for required services and thus, they are subject to the furlough requirements. While they are also in training as they perform their work, this training is secondary to their primary role as an employee. Postdoctoral Research Fellows primarily have educational or training status. They are paid a stipend for which no service is required and the employee/employer relationship does not exist. Postdoctoral Research Fellows are not benefits eligible employees of the University and thus, are not subject to the furlough requirements.
