Are Poses named after Gods and religious rituals?
It is true that some of the poses, such as Natarajasana (king dancer) are named after a god of creation and destruction. Most poses are named after forces of nature, animals, plants and trees. There is always an element of gratitude toward the essence of what the pose represents. Sun Salutations are not worship to the sun god. They CAN be, but the salutations are primarily meant to be done at daybreak to prepare the physical body for its activities. The salutations are a celebration of gratitude for another day of life with endless possibilities.
