Are poor education levels the result of poor teachers?
I think it’s a combination of things, but not as a result of poor teachers. There have been poor teachers throughout time. The big difference is that parents are not teaching a respoect for education, not supporting their schools, and making teachers “the enemy”. Look at the questions and comments by the students and parents on here and you will see the majority of them think they or their child is oh-so-special and the teacher is always wrong. It’s great that they want to support their child, but what happened to supporting the teacher? You don’t know how many parent-teacher conferences I have sat in as a counselor and heard the parent whine that the teacher was too hard on their little Johnny, gave too much homework, or shouldn’t fail him because it would just crush his self-esteem. I am now a college professor and I have so many students who think that they should pass because they “tried so hard” or are “paying good money” for tuition.
