Are politicians inherently corrupted by the power and position afforded to them?
It depends on your definition of corrupt. If you mean the common sense definition of accepting bribes in return for favors they can grant as a result of their political power, and which the recipient would not have been able to get said benefit without the bribe, the answer is no. There are many inherently moral and ethical people who go into politics to make a difference. These people will not accept a bribe even if the risk of being caught would be small. However, if you include in your definition any situation in which the politician gets any benefit, and that the politician’s actions have a positive impact on the provider of the favor, the answer is probably much closer to yes.
