Are plecos compatible with red capped oranda?
Do not mix plecos with goldfish, ever. It isn’t just simply about the fact that plecos are tropical and so need warmer water but plecos will eat the slime coat off of goldfish when they sleep opening them up to bacterial and parasitic infections which can and will cause death. Adding a pleco or ghost shrimp or any other algae eater is not the solution for a tank that has algae. You should only really add these if you really like the species of fish. It is up to you and you only to maintain your tank. If you have a lot of algae you need to consider what’s causing it to make it go away. Brown algae is actually diatoms and is a phosphate build up or commonly seen in newly cycled tanks. This will clear up on it’s own, provided you have high light at least 12 hours a day. You can add a silicate resin, Fluval makes one, that takes phosphate out of the water in case it’s coming from the tap. If it’s green algae, clean your tank! You can scrub plants and decos with aquarium salt, rinse in wate
