Are players seeing Test cricket as a less attractive option?
For Murali, I think he’s made up his mind to quit some time ago. He’s 37 now. The next World Cup is going to be his last and the Test series (against West Indies) before that. I think with Murali it’s just the age factor and he doesn’t have that hunger any more. With Andrew there’s a lot of cricket in him but injuries take their toll in Tests and it’s something he’s possibly had to consider to prolong his career as a cricketer. He’s going to be a great loss for Test cricket, he’s a genuine all-rounder who can bowl at 90mph and score you runs at number seven. There’s not many can do that. I don’t think anyone has taken a decision purely because of the short form of the game. The exception to that could be Chris Gayle saying he wouldn’t mourn if Test cricket went under. Yes.
