Are plant protection chemicals and fertilisers subject to the draft environment tax law?
With chemical fertilisers, the recommendation is that we don’t impose an environment tax. About 60 per cent of our population survives on subsistent agriculture. Even though the State has many policies to support agriculture production, the life of these people remains difficult. It would be more difficult for them if chemical fertiliser costs were increased. Plant protection chemicals are a different story. They belong to a group of products that should be limited. By imposing an environment tax on plant protection chemicals we hope to reduce their use and thus their bad impacts on the health of the community.
