Are pitbulls really vicious?
Again for this question, it depends on the owner not the dog. Pit-bulls are not bred to be human vicious. If the owner does not properly train and socialize the dog, then LIKE ANY BREED, it can be vicious to people. Stop blaming the breed for when people have not been responsible enough to properly care for their pets.
Pit bulls, like any other dog become a mirrored image of their owner. If the dogs owner is kind, loving and gentile, this is how the dog will be. If the owner is a mean and vicious person, this is how the dog will be. A dog learns from its owner just like a child learns from its parents. I’m so tired of people with their misconceptions of pit bulls and other bully breeds as being an unruly and unpredictable. The animal planet aired a show last week on the Michael Vick case. Of all the dogs seized from his property, only two had to be put down… one was too aggressive towards other dogs and another was breed so much she was sickly and suffering. ALL of the other dogs (which were all fighting dogs mind you) were found loving homes. These dogs were not only NOT people aggressive, but were also not dog aggressive either. A pit bull becomes a fighter only to please its master, not to please itself, or to fufill an inner drive to do so. A pit is VERY loyal to its human, it lives to please.
Of course they are. All of the service work for the elderly, drug detection and force work for the police, search work, fire work, and un-rivaled love for their owners makes them vicious. Owners that are incompetent, ignorant, and lazy make dogs (of ANY breed) vicious. A labrador that was ill-trained can be just as vicious as a pit that was ill-trained.
No, i am a firm believer it is how the owner raises them up to be. Pit Bulls have a bad rap thanks to all the media, people get attacked by just as many other breeds, labs, collies etc. you never here about those..but god forbid a pit bull, or rottwieler, or any other breed deemed “vicious” bites, its all over the place. Pit bulls can be great companions if raised right, It is not the breed for someone who doesn’t have the time to properly socialize it. They need to be socialized with people and other animals early on, and if you don’t have time to do this, then don’t get one. Pit bulls are bred by people and trained by people to be dog aggressive..it is how the owner raises them up to be.
NO!!! I have always owned a Pit Bull. It’s the BAD OWNERS that are DANGEROUS!!! My dog is NOT aggressive towards humans or animals. He has passed training and obedience classes and has a very very high temperament. His trainer wants him to start the process of becoming a therapy dog. Pit Bulls aim to please their owners, so as long as they have good owners they will be just fine. Now on the other hand, Pit Bulls aim to please their owners, so if you have a fighting dog and its owner is praising him for being aggressive, you will have a worse off dog because he thinks he is doing the right thing. Didn’t you ever hear the saying “Bad dog owner = bad dog” Pit Bulls are one of the friendliest breeds of dogs and have one of the highest temperament ratings.
