Yes, this is no different from the current regulations. However, Part 42 clarifies the existing arrangements by making it very clear what a pilot’s obligations are in terms of the recording, performance and certification of the maintenance they perform. The existing pilot maintenance provisions currently known as CASA Schedule 8 are in line with world practice. The FAA, Transport Canada and UK CAA publish similar lists of approved maintenance tasks for pilots. Under the proposed CASR Part 42, the existing CASA Schedule 8 will be replicated but will generally be restricted to small aircraft not operated under an AOC.
