Are photo enhancement softwares used in criminal investigation for real?
Yes and no. Yes there is photo enhancement software around that can improve the image or a part of an image, but no, it cannot add information that is simply not there in the first place. It is all Hollywood when you see someone call for the enhancement of a small section of a picture that might show a bit of a newspaper for instance, and as if by magic, a few passes of the software reveals the smallest print on the page so that it can be read.
