Pesticides are poisons intended to kill living things and technically no pesticide can be considered “safe” for adults, children or animals. Nevertheless, pesticides may be used safely. The Fair Labor Standards Act prohibits any person under age 16 from being employed in an occupation that requires handling or applying pesticides registered by US EPA. Because children do not recognize pesticide hazards, responsible adults do not permit their children to play with or apply pesticides.
