Are peoples memories distorted by their attitudes and stereotypes?

Yes. My answer is based on my experience as a Psychologist. We only ever have our personal perception of the world, which our mind will have based on incoming detail from our senses, filtered by our experiences, beliefs (attitudes), values etc. We store memories and they frequently get linked-up with memories that we unconsciously deem connected. Our memories are not fixed, somewhat concrete, entities, and may alter over time: hence the benefits of some psychological treatments that help with trauma etc. Much of our experience gets ‘processed’, outside of our conscious awareness, so that we can more fully understand it etc. Much of our sleep’s dreaming deals with this – it therefore is influenced by our other unconscious beliefs, stereotypes etc, at conscious and unconscious levels. Hope these quick thoughts help. Good luck!
