Are people with epilepsy alowed to become cops?
Most Police Departments and Fire Departments flatly turn down epileptics for several reasons: 1. Code lights can set off grand-mal seizures. 2. Many states have laws that forbid epileptics from driving. DOT rigs and HAZMAT licenses are very strict about epilepsy: a seizure at the wheel of a fully-loaded eighteen-wheeler, particularly with a tanker full of gasoline, makes it clear why CDL regulations forbid epileptics at the wheel. 3. Cops have the responsibility to exceed speed limits, drive in hot pursuit, etc. That is stressful at best.
