Are people taking better security precautions with wireless networks?

There are still a lot of open access points. The latest figure I saw was that about 60 percent of networks are open. Businesses have gotten better about security. We get interesting reactions when we tell local businesses that their networks are unsecured. Sometimes you get a slap in the face. They tell you that you don’t know what you’re talking about. Others are really gracious. Do you ever “borrow” Internet access when wardriving? No. I have broadband at home. I got involved in wardriving in the early days before there was a name for it. It’s like a game of Pac-Man. Every time NetStumbler picks up a network, your laptop makes a little sound. Each network is like a little dot that Pac-Man gobbles up. I do it for fun, not free Internet access. Three and a half years ago, there weren’t that many dots to gobble up. There are a lot more today.
